Birthday Party at Novelty Hill, Januik Winery, Woodinville, WA

This birthday party at Januik Winery in Woodinville, rocked! What a location! What a venue!  At noon, decadent wines were served to guests. While photographing, I lived vicariously watching adults sipping local and acclaimed Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay. Elegant and beautiful food was served as well. After the birthday cake, children delivered the best energy, playfulness and joy. Here, several images show what kids love so much: playing outside.

Wines by Novelty Hill Januik Winery, birthday cakes by Carla Reich of Honey Crumb Studio, venue party details by Elice’s creative parent.

The Order of Things. Toddler photography in Seattle,WA

Upon arriving at a photo session, I was told that kids would be eating black berries as the last thing, so as not to mess up hands, attire and all in site….. We soon found out that eating berries was the first thing on the agenda and it was non-negotiable. Hey! Kids know their priorities….

Boy, dog, the river and the end of summer. Kid photography, Seattle, WA

This was about the tail-end of the Northwest Summer. This was about a child’s joie de vivre. This was about a friendship between a dog and a boy. This was about the Stillaguamish River that was still inviting during the first days of September. This was about my own nostalgia for my beloved Baltic Sea and the carefree moments I loved as a child.

Location, Location, Location… Family photography session in Georgetown, Seattle, WA

You might have heard people say that location is the most important thing for a business. Then, the next most important is … location. All true in photography as well or speaking from my experience: in family photography. Kids and parents open up in front of a camera more if the location of the photo session takes place in a playful setting, among many props and colors that surprise the eye. Georgetown in Seattle never disappoints. The rough-around-the-edges Seattle district has much to offer for any photographer. To me, a family photographer, Georgetown is an urban goldmine of textures, old buildings, objects, and is never boring where rustic walls or graffiti serve as a perfect backdrop. I often like to start my photography session from a yellow leather couch at the well-known by now All City Coffee (where baristas  know how to smooth out their espresso, where chai is spicy and day’s assortment of motorcycles is parked out front while all kinds of resident artists and free thinkers enjoy their beverage) and then venture from there to find more, and be amazed and amused. Georgetown rocks!

“Ode to beautiful light.” Yellow grasses and family photo session at Discovery Park in Seattle, WA

I shared a photo from my recent family photo session with my friend, Martha. She responded: “Great shot! This reminds me of a Rilke poem, she added, translated by Robert Bly called, “A Walk.” Then she quoted the poem:

“My eyes already touch the sunny hill,
going far ahead of the road I have begun.
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has inner light, even from a distance -
and changes us, even if we do not reach it,
into something else, which, hardly sensing it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on
answering our own wave…
but what we feel is the wind in our faces”.

Thank you Martha and thank you Rainer Maria Rilke.

Tristan and a centipede at Golden Gardens Park. Family Photos – Seattle, WA

There is a saying: “You learn something new every day”. Recently, I photographed a boy who learned about a centipede. While looking at the photos my friend added: “looks like the parents learned something new too”! BTW, the centipede was released into a patch of grass and she walked away fast from the photo session. After all she does have 100 legs!

Dynamic Family photo session by a Seattle, WA based family photographer – Anita Nowacka

The most dynamic family photo session of mine, ever! On Venice Beach, CA with the wind in our hair, Nikon on continuous high speed mode (for the most part). Jasin Boland is a Hollywood motion picture stills photographer and Nikon Ambassador http://www.jasinboland.com/. I had the pleasure and honor to photograph Mr. Boland and his family this summer while on assignment for Black Rapid, Inc., Camera Strap System Company based in Seattle, WA /http://www.blackrapid.com/. Things were happening fast while we were rolling through the famous Venice Beach pathways. So fast that in one image taken on the beach, I sunk their brand new skateboard into the sand while setting one image up. I so hope that the wheels have not jammed. Some day I will find out …
