Maternity session by Puget Sound, Seattle, WA

Amanda is a repeat client. I was happy to hear from her after some time. I photographed her son when he was a toddler. That seems so long ago! She announced that she was expecting twins and she wanted more photos. We had a photo session by the cold but gentle waters of Puget Sound while the Vashon Island ferry sailed by a few times. Bellame was part of the session as well, while his mother showered him with affection.

Forget sliding The Gate to 2013! Let’s just blow it wide open!

Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy New Year! Let it be filled with creativity, tenacity, love and courage!

This photo was made in Georgetown, Seattle, WA, this past summer. Little did I know when we photographed, that this particular photo would be used by my clients for their New Year’s card. How appropriate!

Boy, dog, the river and the end of summer. Kid photography, Seattle, WA

This was about the tail-end of the Northwest Summer. This was about a child’s joie de vivre. This was about a friendship between a dog and a boy. This was about the Stillaguamish River that was still inviting during the first days of September. This was about my own nostalgia for my beloved Baltic Sea and the carefree moments I loved as a child.

Location, Location, Location… Family photography session in Georgetown, Seattle, WA

You might have heard people say that location is the most important thing for a business. Then, the next most important is … location. All true in photography as well or speaking from my experience: in family photography. Kids and parents open up in front of a camera more if the location of the photo session takes place in a playful setting, among many props and colors that surprise the eye. Georgetown in Seattle never disappoints. The rough-around-the-edges Seattle district has much to offer for any photographer. To me, a family photographer, Georgetown is an urban goldmine of textures, old buildings, objects, and is never boring where rustic walls or graffiti serve as a perfect backdrop. I often like to start my photography session from a yellow leather couch at the well-known by now All City Coffee (where baristas  know how to smooth out their espresso, where chai is spicy and day’s assortment of motorcycles is parked out front while all kinds of resident artists and free thinkers enjoy their beverage) and then venture from there to find more, and be amazed and amused. Georgetown rocks!

“Ode to beautiful light.” Yellow grasses and family photo session at Discovery Park in Seattle, WA

I shared a photo from my recent family photo session with my friend, Martha. She responded: “Great shot! This reminds me of a Rilke poem, she added, translated by Robert Bly called, “A Walk.” Then she quoted the poem:

“My eyes already touch the sunny hill,
going far ahead of the road I have begun.
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has inner light, even from a distance -
and changes us, even if we do not reach it,
into something else, which, hardly sensing it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on
answering our own wave…
but what we feel is the wind in our faces”.

Thank you Martha and thank you Rainer Maria Rilke.

This family photo session was about welcoming the first glimpse of Seattle Summer, enjoying first bike rides, being playful and funny in front of a camera and most of all it was about love for each other.
