Keeping up with the balance…. Family Photography, Seattle, WA

With posting this image depicting the joy of discovery I am leaving Seattle for a bit, to take time off from my demanding schedule as a family photographer. As much as I love what I do, sometimes I need to step away from the photographer’s rigorous work flow.
Here is to seeing new places, meeting new people, reconnecting with friends and planting new seeds of ideas! For now, so long Chief Seattle, halloo Pele!

Happy New Year 2013! From Anita Nowacka Photography

Forget sliding The Gate to 2013! Let’s just blow it wide open!

Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy New Year! Let it be filled with creativity, tenacity, love and courage!

This photo was made in Georgetown, Seattle, WA, this past summer. Little did I know when we photographed, that this particular photo would be used by my clients for their New Year’s card. How appropriate!

“Ode to beautiful light.” Yellow grasses and family photo session at Discovery Park in Seattle, WA

I shared a photo from my recent family photo session with my friend, Martha. She responded: “Great shot! This reminds me of a Rilke poem, she added, translated by Robert Bly called, “A Walk.” Then she quoted the poem:

“My eyes already touch the sunny hill,
going far ahead of the road I have begun.
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has inner light, even from a distance -
and changes us, even if we do not reach it,
into something else, which, hardly sensing it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on
answering our own wave…
but what we feel is the wind in our faces”.

Thank you Martha and thank you Rainer Maria Rilke.

Mother and Son. Part 2. Family Photography at Carkeek Park in Seattle, WA

Working as a family photographer I strive for simple portraits. I like the simplicity in expressions, gestures, composition, and light. Sometimes it comes quickly and easily, but mostly it is a dance between finding the right moment, the right time, and the right opening to people’s energy and moods. It always starts a bit like a clumsy dance; stepping on each others toes, so to speak, when “partners” need to get to know one another. Later on, it moves  to finding that right balance between the subject and the components of photography: the photographer, camera, lenses, light, timing, moods and whatever might happen in the moment which often makes an image that much more interesting. In this case, it was a straw hat that appeared onto a set several minutes into the session. I tell you, simple things matter…

Bike Joy. Spontanious Family Portrait Photography- Seattle, WA.

Some things have changed a lot since I was a toddler: technology for sure. Kid’s toys look so sophisticated these days and they are equipped with many gadgets. One thing stays the same though: The Joy of Playing! When I was making this family portrait recently, the tricycle came along with few other toys to use as props. It was an early morning photography session and when the frost on the Kirkland dock was almost gone, the trike came to the scene and Chloe’s face lit up and a permanent smile appeared. While I was photographing her speeding up, slowing down, smiling and being cautioned by her watchful parents my own memories of  biking as a child came into mind. I know that my bike riding days were the most powerful times for me. That was the first time I tasted being free, going fast and taking chances on my own. Back then, bike helmets were not “in vogue” yet…. Hey, Chloe, BTW where is your helmet since The Times have changed, indeed?!

Harley Davidson Family. (Seattle Family Photography).

This Family are repeat clients. I photographed a wedding within this Family, then a brand new child that they so awaited and few days ago a celebration of the Grandparents and their long marriage. Those guys are Harley Davidson riders. They are fun people. They love their dogs. They love their kids. They love their wheels dearly. I had a permanent grin on my face while photographing them during the latest photo session involving the entire family and The Harleys. After the work was done, I received a check and …. a bottle of primo Chopin Vodka. They know I am Polish. Whatever that means… Here is the preview from the photo session I so enjoyed:

Post Scriptum

After the photos were delivered, my Client wrote me a note:

“I love the photos and it is hard to pick a favorite. I really like one of my mom and her dog. It is so hard to get my mom to smile, and you really captured her. Also, the ones of my mom and dad on the motorcycle. They have really enjoyed their motorcycling days and it is nice to capture that as well. My dad just put his motorcycle up for sale, a hard thing for him to do. But, he has some vision issues and is concerned. I am so happy we were able to do the session when we did. Also love the group shots…. and ones of me. Like the jpg you sent me last! Thank you again Anita for your creative eye, and patience to work with the group”.  Susanne

Elegance of a Mother. Seattle Newborn Photography.

It was a photo session with a Mother and her Newborn daughter. We chose a Shilshole Beach in Seattle, WA for a location. The sun was being filtered through the clouds. The child needed to be fed. I photographed, and the crow walked into the image frame. While the breeze picked up few times, it was a quiet moment between us and that crow.
